Glass bead

Glass beads are manufactured from lead-free, soda lime-type glass, containing no free silica that is made into preformed ball shapes. Chemically inert and environmentally friendly, glass beads are an acceptable method of metal cleaning or surface finishing when properly controlled. Glass beads are very widely used in the impact treatment of surface. Their spherical shape and chemical nature endow them with a variety of properties that no other surface treatment agent has, combined.

They are shaped like perfect spheres with a smooth, shining surface. They are available in successive granulometric range of 1 to 1000 microns. During projection, each microbead act like a small hammer on the surface of the part to be treated.

Glass Bead is a versatile air-blasting media used in a variety of different applications:

Surface finishing

Glass Bead blasting can be used on a wide range of materials including metal, glass, plastic and rubber. The smaller the glass spheres, the smoother the surface; larger spheres produce a more textured finish. To protect certain areas or in detail etching purposes, areas can be easily masked with tape

  • It gives a controlled and constant roughness
  • It masks surface defects
  • It obtains a clean, smooth and satiny surface. Allow anti-reflection treatment
  • It allows decorative finishes (cutlery, jewellery...)

Glass Bead blasting removes/cleans foreign substances from the surface without a dimensional change to the surface. A wide range of bead sizes is available. For example removing paint, light corrosion, degreasing, and almost any other surface contaminants. Glass beads may also be used to prepare surfaces for gasket sealing, paint adhesion, or lubrication retension.

It does not cause damage to the product and its dimension
  • It provides a smooth and economic cleaning
  • It fits frequent cleaning
  • It is used on welding surface
  • It removes surface oxidation, flame stains...

Glass Bead blasting removes burrs, feathered edges, and flashing from parts in a precision operation. Corners and edges must be deburred with precision to assemble and operate properly. Glass bead blasting guarantees that no base metal from the surface is removed. Delicate and finished areas may be easily masked for protection

  • Remove burrs
  • Clean, with high precision, pieces without damaging cutting edges
  • Take away any surface property
  • Perform all processing in one time
  • Easily reproducible, even on products with high dimensional tolerance

Shot peening

Peening with Glass Bead is a low-cost form of creating a uniform surface layer of compressed stress in alloy substances. Peening acts to combat stress cracks and corrosion, resulting in increasing the life of metal parts. The high degree of roundness of our Glass Bead media enhances the performance of stress resistance processes.

  • Reduce crack spread and corrosion of pieces while increasing lifecycle
  • Create a surface layer of compression, controlled thickness, without damaging the surface
  • Do not contaminate parts thanks to the chemical neutrality particularly suitable for pieces in stainless steel, titanium, special alloys...
  • Obtain the desired level of shot peening without changing the dimension or shape of pieces.

The versatility and ease of use in glass bead, along with its safety and enviromental factors, has allowed it to grow into one of the most widely use processes in manufacturing today.
